Welcome to the captivating realm of EyeEm, a photography platform that conquers the creative world.
If you’ve been pondering, “What is EyeEm?” you’ve come to the right place.
In this article, we shall delve deeply into EyeEm, its features, and how it can enhance your photography.
So, take your camera and let us embark on this exhilarating adventure.
What Is EyeEm, Truly?
EyeEm is not merely another photo-sharing platform; it is a global community of photographers and visual artists.
The company was founded in Germany(Berlin) in 2011 by Florian Meissner, Ramzi Rizk, Gen Sadakane, and Lorenz Aschoff.
It provides a space where creators can share their work, collaborate with like-minded individuals, and even monetize their skills.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
EyeEm Marketplace
One of the most significant characteristics of EyeEm is its Marketplace, where photographers can showcase their talents to a broad audience.
If you are passionate about photography, this is your opportunity to shine.
You can upload your images, and if they capture the attention of a potential buyer, you can earn money.
EyeEm Vision
EyeEm’s Vision technology is remarkable.
This feature utilizes artificial intelligence to analyze and categorize your photos, making it easier to find the right audience.
Whether you love landscape photography, portraits, or wildlife, EyeEm’s Vision technology can help your work reach the right viewers.
EyeEm Awards
Participating in the EyeEm Awards is an opportunity for global recognition.
It is a prestigious photography competition that celebrates creativity and originality.
EyeEm awards are open to everyone, whether you are a beginner or an experienced professional.
Joining EyeEm
Registration
Upon visiting the EyeEm website, if you wish to sell photographs, scroll to the bottom of the page and select the “Sell your photos” option.
A window will open where you need to provide basic information, such as your email address and password.
You can also register through Facebook if you have a profile.
Upon completing the registration, a window for entering personal information will appear.
Entering Personal Information
Under the “Enter your seller details” option, you must enter your name, surname, country, current address, and postal code.
You must confirm that you are 18 years of age or older.
If you have filled out everything correctly, a message will appear indicating that you are ready to start selling.
You should have your photos prepared because you can begin uploading with “Start Uploading.”
Of course, you can always return to upload more images from your profile.
The recommended resolution is 4MP or higher.
EyeEm has expanded its offerings, and now you can also attach your illustrations.
Uploading Images to Your Gallery
With each new image upload, on the right side of the window, you will need to enter some details for potential buyers to understand what is in your picture.
Add caption
Here, you attach a brief description of what is in the picture.
Try to create a description that captures your attention.
Add Tags
Under “Add tags,” input terms directly related to the image description.
For example, if you named the image “Sunset at Sea,” the tags would include sea, sun, sunset, nature, idyllic, and so on.
Below the terms, you also have pre-suggested (automatically generated terms), so if you can’t think of a better idea, you can choose them all.
Add Location
Here, as the name suggests, specify the location (country, place, region, etc.).
Discoverability
At the top of the upload window, there is an indicator in the form of a bar.
The better the image description and the more terms you provide, the indicator will increase and change color.
When the description is detailed enough, it will turn green.
This means you’ve done a good job.
Completing the Upload
By completing the upload, you’ve created your gallery and added your first photograph.
Here, you will also need to declare that you are the owner of the photograph and, as a result, you assert copyright to it.
You can choose to upload more images, but since you can do this later, I suggest you go ahead and edit your profile now.
Editing Your Profile
On your created profile, you will need to enter additional information.
These are as important as providing good image descriptions.
First, you must upload your profile picture and then the text that will be visible beneath the profile picture.
Here, you provide a short biography and a possible website where more about you can be seen.
If you don’t have a website, you can contact us.
We can publish your short biography and a brief gallery on the “Your Works” page to enhance your reputation.
Email Address Confirmation and Account Activation
If you haven’t already, to finally activate your account, find the email address confirmation option on your profile.
After that, you will receive an email that will activate your account.
If you signed up through Facebook and have a different email address there, you will find the email confirmation at that address.
Choosing the Payment Option
When one of your images is sold, under the “Payout” option on your profile, you can see all payments made to you and the total amount earned.
The payment option mentions only payouts through a PayPal account.
Of course, you must also link the email you use for payment to PayPal.
How You Get Paid?
You cannot define the price; it is defined by the current market value.
EyeEm takes a small commission and, by selling the image, essentially gives away your copyright.
The commission rate is defined in the table in the image and is based on the turnover achieved.
If you haven’t already opened a PayPal account, you can find instructions on how to do so here.
Conclusion
You might think that EyeEm is the same as many other similar image-selling websites.
Its advantage lies in the fact that many people involved in photography use it.
With less competition, you’ll achieve results faster than in other places, and earnings from sales are slightly higher.
You can see this from the image on our created profile.
Even though I haven’t added a profile picture or a short biography yet, I’ve already received 6 “likes” and one subscription!
EyeEm: Advertising Guidelines
To boost the visibility of your profile, especially at the beginning, it is important to advertise.
On your created profile, there is an option to share on Facebook.
So, share on all social networks, and even better, find Facebook groups dedicated solely to photography and share there.
Finally, you can see that the number of users accessing this platform monthly is 1 million.
Therefore, your work will be accessible to a broad audience.
